We designed a mobile MVP for a firehouse operations platform, replacing whiteboards and paper logs with automated inventory and shared-fund tracking
/
About the client
FireStock is a mission-driven tech startup founded by a veteran firefighter to modernize the antiquated logistics of firehouse life. By replacing manual tracking with a professional-grade SaaS platform, the client aims to eliminate financial friction and inventory waste, ensuring that first responders can focus on their service rather than administrative chaos.
/
Challenge
The challenge with FireStock was to transform a chaotic, manual system of paper sheets and whiteboards into a seamless professional tool. Firefighters needed a solution that eliminated the financial strain of unrecorded debts and the inefficiency of "blind" inventory management without adding laborious data entry.
The design objective was to build a high-performance, "noir" aesthetic interface that balances complex logistical data - such as live kitty fund balances and cross-referenced grocery lists - with a low-resistance UX tailored for high-stress environments.

/
Wireframes
Structural wireframes created to map out screens, prioritize content, and ensure a clear, intuitive user flow.

/
Design Concepts
To align the platform with the rigorous demands of firehouse life, two distinct design directions were explored. Both concepts utilized a "noir" aesthetic with high-contrast elements to ensure legibility in
high-pressure environments, focusing on reducing cognitive load for station managers.
Concept #1 was selected for its superior functional hierarchy and professional "tool-like" aesthetic, which aligns perfectly with the high-pressure environment of fire services. The amber-orange accents were preferred over the blue palette as they directly resonate with the firefighting industry, evoking
a sense of urgency, warmth, and professional equipment.

/
High-Fidelity Design
The final interface for FireStock prioritizes structural clarity and high-performance utility, moving from conceptual wireframes to a rigorous functional design system. Every element is engineered to ensure that the "noir" aesthetic enhances rather than compromises usability, providing a professional tool that remains intuitive under the stress of active duty.

Home Page
The Home Page serves as a high-performance dashboard that provides station managers with an immediate overview of house operations. It prioritizes scannable data, featuring a live "Kitty Fund" balance and Low-Stock Alerts to ensure essential items never run out.
Designed for "least resistance," the interface places primary actions like photo-based inventory entry and automated grocery list generation within immediate reach.

/
Inventory
The Inventory Page is a robust tracking system designed to eliminate "blind"
and redundant stock. It features a live database to accommodate a low-resistance workflow.
The interface includes an automated "Low Stock" alert system that triggers once items reach
a critical threshold, ensuring essential supplies like coffee and butter are always available.

/
Finances
The Finances Page serves as a transparent digital ledger that eliminates the stress of managing
the "Kitty Fund" by replacing whiteboards with a live tracking system.
It features a dedicated debt list that monitors unpaid dues, allowing managers to send instant notifications to personnel to settle balances without social friction. By integrating automated reminders and clear transaction histories, the platform ensures total financial accountability and prevents station managers from incurring personal expenses due to uncollected house funds.

/
Meals
The Meals Page acts as a centralized culinary hub that bridges inventory data with daily station life through an automated recipe ecosystem. It allows users to browse and select meals while instantly cross-referencing ingredients against live stock levels to generate precise, one-tap grocery lists.
By integrating meal planning with the "Kitty Fund," the interface ensures that food costs are transparently tracked and distributed, turning a complex logistical task into a seamless, high-performance workflow.

/
Profile
The Profile Page serves as a personal command center where firefighters manage their professional identity and financial settings. It centralizes essential data like rank, shift schedules, and Venmo integration to ensure all reimbursements and fund contributions are accurately assigned.
By allowing users to toggle notification preferences and manage house-specific settings, the interface ensures a personalized, low-friction experience that keeps every team member synchronized with the station’s ecosystem.

/
Notifications
The Notifications Page acts as the system's pulse, delivering critical updates
that require immediate attention without creating unnecessary noise.

/
Design System
A consistent design system was created to unify colors, typography, spacing, and reusable UI components across the product. Defined interaction states ensure predictable behavior and a cohesive experience, while the structured component library supports efficient scaling and future development.

/
Results
FireStock transformed chaotic station logistics into a high-performance digital ecosystem. By replacing paper tracking with a "noir" low-friction interface, the platform eliminated "Kitty Fund" leakages and cut inventory waste through data-synced meal planning.
The transition to a structured, high-contrast layout and amber-accented palette significantly improved scannability in high-stress environments, while automated notifications removed the social friction of debt collection. The final product achieved high adoption rates by proving that a technical tool can be both high-utility and aesthetically premium

5/5
I get screwed by another company and almost quit my idea of creating an app. I held multiple interviews with people and chose Ivan. I'm so glad I did. Within a few days he and I talked a bunch to create the app I was dreaming of. He's extremely detailed and wants to make sure you enjoy every part of the app. I am moving on to the development phase with him and his partnering team. Please choose him for your app, you won't regret it
